A Hammer In Every Hand
Product DesignProblem: A hammer is a simple tool, but not everyone can use one.
Solution*: An air-powered hammer that helps the elderly and differently abled live more freely.
For this project, I took a perfectly simple tool – the hammer – and reinvented it so anyone can hang pictures or assemble furniture independently. My proposed tool is a pneumatic driver with an independent power source – a CO2 cartridge instead of an air hose – and a stabilizing system inspired by the Liftware Steady spoon.
The CG concept art was informed by sketches drawn by yours truly:
The final concept design was reached through a series of explorations both on paper and in-hand (those were extremely lo-fi and not pictured here):
*This is a concept design. It hasn’t been prototyped. But I’m pretty sure it would work. Trust.
